The Okinawa Zoo & Museum is a landmark redevelopment that transformed a traditional zoo into a fully immersive, day-to-night destination. Blending a zoological park with an interactive museum, the project redefines the visitor experience and strengthens its position as a key attraction in Japan.

Lighting played a central role in this transformation, shaping how visitors navigate and experience the space, especially after dark. The solution needed to enhance the environment, support extended nighttime operations, and respect sensitive animal habitats, all within a demanding outdoor setting.

Working alongside one of Japan's leading lighting designers, the approach uses light as both a narrative and wayfinding tool. The project integrates Lumenpulse solutions, including Lumenbeam, Lumenfacade and Lumenfacade Inground fixtures, enabling precise adaptation across diverse zones while balancing visual impact and animal well-being.

Each area is defined by a tailored lighting approach that reinforces its identity and atmosphere. This strategy is key to the success of the "Night Zoo," where the site transforms after dark into a distinctive and engaging experience, increasing visitation and extending operational value.
